http://best-of-eva.skyrock.com/Figure de proue du rock alternatif américain, à la frontière du nu metal, et du rock mélodique, Evanescence est l&#039;un des groupes de prédilection des amateurs d&#039;ambiance lyriques et ténébreuses (« gothiques », diraient certains). Superbe ensemble mélodique pour ses fans, facilités post-adolescentes pour ses détracteurs, la production du groupe est symptomatique de la richesse de la scène rock américaine. Volontiers comparé à Linkin Park, Evanescence va nettement plus loin que de simples minauderies post-byroniennes. Evanescence naît de la rencontre de deux jeunes adolescents de l&#039;Arkansas : en 1994, Ben Moody, quatorze ans, et Amy Lee, treize ans, tous deux originaires de Little Rock, sympathisent en colonie de vacances, et se découvrent des goûts musicaux communs. Tous deux commencent rapidement à écrire des chansons, soit chacun de leur côté soit à quatre mains, pour en assurer ensuite ensemble la mise en musique. Les deux jeunes gens enregistrent plusieurs morceaux, Amy assurant le chant et les claviers tandis que Ben se charge de l&#039;accompagnement à la guitare : les radios locales de Little Rock se risquent à diffuser leur production, qui est suffisamment appréciée des auditeurs pour que Ben et Amy se produisent bientôt en concert dans divers petits locaux. Le futur tube « My Immortal » figure déjà au répertoire du groupe, qui hésite encore entre divers noms : ce n&#039;est qu&#039;en 1998 que le nom définitif d&#039;Evanescence est choisi. Les duettistes sont encore loin des hautes sphères et ne tirent leurs deux premiers mini-albums, Evanenscence et Sound Asleep qu&#039;à respectivement cent et cinquante exemplaires. Le groupe est néanmoins très actif, enregistrant une démo, « Origin » et s&#039;enrichissant bientôt d&#039;un nouveau membres avec l&#039;arrivée, en 1999, de David Hodges (batteur et choriste). Evanescence réalise au début des années 2000 plusieurs petites tournées, auxquelles collaborent deux copains de Ben et Amy, John LeCompt (bassiste) et Rocky Gray (batteur). Ces derniers finissent par rejoindre le groupe de manière permanente et, en 2002, avec l&#039;arrivée du bassiste Will Boyd, le noyau dur d&#039;Evanescence est enfin formé. En 2003, le groupe décroche la timbale en signant avec Wind Up Records, label en cheville avec Sony-BMG. Le lancement de Fallen, premier véritable album d&#039;Evanescence, bénéficie d&#039;une promotion de choix avec la participation du groupe au Nintendo Fusion Tour, festival rock sponsorisé par la firme de jeux vidéos. Le succès de la tournée fait monter en flèche la notoriété d&#039;Evanescence, dont le son rock et lyrique, aux compositions soigneusement travaillées et à l&#039;ambiance soigneusement sombre, touche vivement le jeune public. Deux des chansons de l&#039;album, « Bring Me to Life » et « My Immortal », figurent dans la bande originale du film Daredevil, distribué quelques jours avant le disque et, si la qualité du film dans son ensemble prête pour le moins à discussion, ces deux titres contribuent largement à ce que son ambiance a de plus réussi. Fallen se vend à plus de sept millions d&#039;exemplaires aux Etats-Unis, et quinze millions à l&#039;échelle mondiale.
